GLOBAL LEADING VOLUNTEERS
GLOBAL LEADING VOLUNTEERS
Global Leading Volunteers helps developing countries by providing volunteering placements in Mental Health, Teaching, Learning Disabilities, Sports and Social Work. We are on a mission to empower the world to be better with global knowledge and cross cultural experience while creating safe placements for self exploration.
With a team of highly talented and experienced volunteers who are there to support you every step of the way, we are recognised for providing you with culture, adventures and creating meaningful memories that you’ll cherish for life. Not only will your weeks be full of enriching placements, but your weekends will be free for you to travel the beautiful countries or join in one of our pre-prepared weekend tours.
As our name suggests, we want to take our unique services globally, with incredible volunteers like you, we can. We want you to look back at our amazing work and say, I was part of that.
Good for the People
– We partner with trustworthy organisations who are established in much needed communities. This is because, it is important that at all times, we focus on the sustainability of communities protecting their ancient cultures and beliefs.
Good for You
– To provide a multicultural experience, through our unique educational programs we give you the opportunity to see the world through another cultures eyes. When you immerse yourself into our programs, events and activities you will be supported through your life-changing adventure with our CBT qualified staff. You will return home with tales of amazing adventures, newfound friends and a craving to do more.
Good for the World
– Global Warming and protecting our beautiful planet is so important to us. We aim to offer programs which will educate on sustainable ways of life. We are transparent in knowing asking people to fly will have an impact on our plant. We have made a promise in return for EVERY volunteer who signs up, a tree will be planted.
Due to Covid-19, Global Leading Volunteers will be focusing on providing online events and projects. With local help we are still supporting our communities, we are working to make sure our partners are safe and in line with Covid-19’s restrictions.
Until we can re-open our placements, we have student socials, interactive webinars and events. Never before have we been able to be so inclusive with our events and programs. We have something for everyone, so head over to our Events page to see what we’re up to!
MEET THE TEAM
Neil is a well-known professional in Sri Lanka and globally for his contributions to social and youth development work and for his charitable work in many communities. He has over 20 years of experience working with both local and international agencies, government bodies, charitable organisations and is a well-established professional of the National Youth Services Council in Sri Lanka which is the pioneer organisation for youth development in Sri Lanka. He is the founder of SL Volunteers Association which has been operating for 10 years enhancing many communities in Sri Lanka. When Neil isn’t watching cricket games, he is usually found in the heart of communities discussing where and how our services can be used to benefit the community.
Emily’s idea of ‘Global Health means Global Wealth’ pushes Global Leading Volunteers to consistently question the value and ethics of our programs. Emily has previous front-line experience working with CAMHs, Adult Mental Health Services, and nonprofit organisations that specialise in supporting people with physical disabilities, Special Educational Needs (SEN), and Autism. She is passionate, vibrant, and true to her values. As someone who has volunteered around the world, both in the community and environmentally, she understands not only the anxieties and cautions volunteers can experience but how important it is to respect the cultures of the communities we support. Our commitment to go green has been driven by her love for the ocean - which when she is not working you can probably find her in.
Yasintha is a professional social worker and youth activist. She has dedicated over 12 years of community, youth, and mental health development in the much-needed communities of Sri Lanka and India. She has empowered and educated international students and graduates by sharing her culture and being transparent in her passion for sustainable support within communities. Yasintha is very passionate and believes in the power of the universe, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. In fact, one of her leading projects in India was developed on the relationship between clinical and ancient psychology. Yasintha is an advocate for enjoying life, whether that is chilling on a Kerala houseboat, climbing Munnar mountains, or white water rafting in a Sri Lankan jungle, she is always smiling and sending positive vibes.
Everything you see, from our website to our blogs is being powered by this mystical being Dave. Having lived in Asia and travelling over several years, he understands the cultural difference our volunteers will be immersing themselves into. He is an experienced designer who loves to bring his knowledge of other cultures to educate others with his work. Alongside his passion for travel, his desire to work on meaningful projects is what has made him a valuable asset to the Global Leading Volunteers team.
Kate is our Global Mental Health pro! She has always had a passion for volunteering and is currently doing an MSc in Global Mental Health. Since the age of 15, she has volunteered both at home and abroad, in education, mental health, tourism, and conservation sectors. Kate’s passion for traveling and learning about different cultures, religions, societies (and food!) is her drive behind immersing herself in every country she lives in. Also means that we have a personal tour guide in each country! During more recent times, Kate has worked at her local Covid test Site and has found the clinical work an extremely rewarding pastime whilst she awaits a time where volunteering and working abroad is allowed again. When Kate hasn't got her nose in her study books she's off exploring mountains and washing elephants.
Manju has worked to support volunteers in India for most of his career. Whether it's in the mental health sector or elsewhere in the community, he has a passion for supporting others. Manju has worked for International NGO as a youth development officer in his home country of India, as well as supporting both national and international volunteers for more than 5 years. Manju has a drive for helping others, he loves traveling and showing people around India with his best knowledge of local customs. His main interest is in sharing his Indian culture, whilst learning about other cultures he is introduced to through international volunteers. And even in his spare time, you can find him lending his services to his community in any way he can. Manju loves to spend his time exploring the mountains and beaches of India - as well as seeking out the best local dishes in every place he travels to.
